Job Description:

Position Purpose: The Vice President of Nursing services as the Chief Nurse Officer (CNO) for Memorial Regional Health - Memorial Hospital. This position is responsible for organizing and administering areas of clinical services to attain the hospital's objectives as established by the Executive Team and Governing Board. The CNO is responsible for supervising nurses and nurse managers, facilitating the design and implementing the delivery of patient care, recommending strategies to improve services, reaching established goals, maintaining satisfactory outcomes and contributing to profitability.Essential Functions and Basic DutiesPosition Specific Performance Expectations:Effectively represents patient care/nursing perspective to governing bodies, and external audiences on behalf of the organization.Ensure a consistent, principle-driven brand for clinical nursing practice across the organization.Develops credibility and trust throughout the organization nursing enterprise including but not limited to the CEO, clinical staff, boards, medical staffs and organization peers through a variety of communication strategies.Provides the voice of the nursing/patient care enterprise at the organization governing body level.Aligns and ensures input is received from stakeholders across the organization.Participate in external activities locally to give visibility and representation to the organization's role in the profession and the broader health care industry.Represents the organization in appropriate advocacy efforts/activities at a regional and national level.Implements a system strategy for the continuing development of the inter-professional relationship of medicine, nursing and other collaboration with other system leaders, designs future functions and roles to facilitate care in the future health care delivery system.Supports the development and implementation of organization wide standards and practices for care of patients/ populationsLeads and or contributes to a comprehensive long-term workforce development plan with academic partners to meet the future needs of the system and its health care delivery model.Cultivate a strategic partnership network with nursing academic organizations that aligns with the system's workforce plan and future needs.Applies knowledge to the formation/revision of practice policies and procedures that are evidenced-based.Transfers acquired knowledge to organizations nursing staffs.Ensures consistency of policies and procedures across the continuum.Holds entity-based nurses and other staff accountable for patient care standards.Implements a consistent monitoring process across all entities to ensure compliance with standards.Maintains current knowledge regarding the state nurse practice act in all states under scope of responsibility.Establishes a consistent process to mitigate issues of non-compliance.Ensures consistency of clinical policies and procedures with respect to care setting and patient population.Standardizes patient care policies and procedures as appropriate to care setting and patient population.Provides learning opportunities for leadership and staff across care settings and patient populations.Partners with academic colleagues to create life learning opportunities for self, nursing leaders and staff.Advocates, acquires and allocates resources for learning opportunities.Determines when new delivery models are appropriate, and then envision and develop them across system entities.Engages in discussions with colleagues internal and external to the organization for benchmarking.Articulates current literature findings and facilitate discussion on best practices.Shares organization best practices with colleagues internal and external to the organization.Engages in discussions with nursing and non-nursing leadership regarding new models and best practices.Leads initiatives to explore alternative care delivery models learning opportunities.Partners with academic and other colleagues to explore new and innovative multi-site care delivery models.Leads redesign efforts at the organization level.Leads initiatives in the development, implementation and evaluation of delivery models.Engages in interprofessional content experts at each entity to develop organization wide patient safety program and develop a process to evaluate the program.Creates a process to monitor and hold clinic staff accountable for all aspects of the patient safety program.Standardizes processes, policies and procedures as indicated for the care setting and patient population across the system. Employee's evidence-based practices in the monitoring process.Works in interprofessional teams to monitor and evaluate clinical activitiesCreates a culture of safety across all entities.Leads QI programs and goals at system level.Cascades patient care quality improvement goals and objectives to entity level leadership.Establishes a scorecard for each entity to track and monitor progress.Employs Six Sigma, Lean or other strategies to improve processes at the entity level.Develops and implement communication plan to inform and educate leaders regarding the linkages.Defines outcomes that are care setting and patient population specific.Creates a culture of interprofessional team work to identify appropriate national quality initiatives, metrics and goals. Recognizes and reward success in achieving goals.Plans and coordinates with the Chief Financial Officer, Controller and the CEO, utilizing the respective Department Managers/Supervisors for planning the budgetary requirements for personnel, performance of work, supplies and equipment.Responsible for enforcing cost controls put in place by the Controller and CFO to insure maximum effectiveness of funds expended from the approved departmental budgets.Assists in the preparation of short-term and long-term financial plans and budgets based upon the goals and growth objectives set by the Board and Executive municates with staff on an on-going basis to facilitate an understanding of daily operations.Provides and maintains effective communication with medical staff, all levels of management and staff, patients and the community.Responds effectively to customer concerns and needs.Acts as a role model for patient - centered care and MRH Service Excellence philosophy of care.Participates and communicates the hospital's strategic plan.Participates in growth activities, including investigations, evaluations, and negotiations in accordance with overall objectives and plans and as assigned by CEO.Promotes and supports new service lines through feasibility studies and business plans.Participates in the planning, design and implementation of construction projects.Performs other duties as anization Wide Performance Expectations:Demonstrates commitment to performing according to the CHOICE values of MRH and representing the organization in a positive and professional manner.Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.Upholds regulatory requirements to ensure continual compliance with departmental, hospital, state and federal regulations and policies.Follows all policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, public and pletes annual education, training, in-service, and licensure/certification requirements; attends departmental and organizational staff meetings or reads meeting minutes.Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated timeframes.Establishes and maintains effective verbal and written communication and good working relationships with all patients, staff and vendors.Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated; manages activity and time.Actively participates in departmental and facility performance improvement and continuous quality initiatives.QualificationsMinimum Requirements: Must be at least 16 years of age (21 for driving positions).Must be able to legally work in the United States.Must be able to pass a background check.Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).Must complete employee health meeting.Education/Licensure/Certification:High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and a valid, current state licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.S. Degree in Nursing, Health Care or Business Administration.Master's Degree required.Unencumbered License/Certification (if applicable).ICS-100 and ICS-200 completed within 90 days of hire or entering into position.Experience: 5 years of progressive leadership/administrative responsibility for Nursing care services required.Experience in the budgeting process and management techniques required.Current patient care theories and practice required.Quality Improvement training strongly preferred.Position Classification: ExemptCompensation Range: $121,000 to $190,000Benefits: Medical, Dental, Life, Retirement, Paid Time Off
