POSITION PURPOSE: Two to three sentences describing the overall purpose of the position. # The Transition to ICU Registered Nurse, under the supervision of the department educator and unit manager/director and in collaboration with his/her preceptors will be responsible for the provision of nursing care to the assigned patients in accordance with current standards of care. # This position assumes responsibility and accountability for providing nursing care for patients and their families. Assure expert, compassionate, individualized nursing care for patients and families is expected. They collaborate with providers, staff and other members of the team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Maximum of ten functions in order of percentage of time spent on functions from longest to shortest; do not list anything that does not represent at least 10% of the job#s time. Please include supervisory responsibilities. 1. Demonstrates accountability for and commitment to professional nursing practice through participation in the Transition to ICU program activities. 2. Consistently meets the necessary performance expectations associated with the curriculum to ensure successful completion of the Transition to ICU program. 3. Engages with clinical educator, department leadership, preceptors, and coworkers to ensure effective learning and professional growth that leads to a successful transition into independent practice in the ICU setting. 4. Demonstrates knowledge and application of the nursing process as it relates to patients and families. 5. Collaborates with healthcare team members, patients and their families in the provision of care. 6. Demonstrates advanced assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. 7. Administers medications, performs treatments, and assists in procedures as needed; consistently adhering to patient safety guidelines. 8. Delivers patient and family education to facilitate plan of care, inform healthcare choices, and promote optimal outcomes. 9. Delegates to and provides direct supervision to other healthcare team members as appropriate in the implementation of the plan of care. 10. Practices within accepted ethical and legal parameters of nursing. 11. Adheres to hospital and department compliance policies, and any and all applicable laws and regulations. 12. Delivers excellent service by utilizing Relationship-Based Care to advocate for safety, patient preferences, and optimal communication through partnering with patients and families. #13. Models the principles of a Just Culture and Vail Health Values. 14. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred Experience: o Two years nursing experience preferred. License(s): o Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Colorado or from a valid compact state required. Certification(s): o Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association required. o Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. o Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) required. Computer / Typing: o Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Education: o Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) required.
